Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his position, becoming the latest political appointee to leave the state government in recent months.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation takes effect from Monday, October 12, 2026, according to a letter dated the same day, in which he formally communicated his decision to the governor.
The development comes amid a series of departures by political appointees from Makinde’s administration over the past two months, although the reasons behind Ogunwuyi’s resignation were not disclosed in the letter.
In his resignation letter, Ogunwuyi expressed appreciation to Makinde for the opportunity to serve in his administration, describing his time in office as an honour.
He said he was proud to have contributed to the achievements of the government and expressed confidence in the continued development of Oyo State.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he wrote.
Ogunwuyi added that he remained grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the state.
“As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State,” he stated.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while conveying his highest regards to the governor.
Before his appointment as Makinde’s Chief of Staff, Ogunwuyi served in the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
His resignation marks another significant change within the governor’s administration as political appointees continue to exit the government.
However, the resignation letter did not provide further details about his next political move or indicate whether his departure was connected to the recent exits from the administration.
