PDP suffers ‘blow’ in Ondo as Agboola, Akinrinlola, others defect to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State suffered a major setback as key stakeholders, including Engr. Joshua Agboola (popularly known as O’MU YES), Mr. Akinrinlola Ojo, and all members of the Idanre Progressive Forum, the largest youth movement in the area, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection, described by observers as a political landslide, further strengthens the ruling party’s hold in the state.

Representing Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa at the event was his Special Assistant on Inter-Party Affairs, Hon. Fade’ Ojamomi.

The ceremony attracted several political heavyweights, including the Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Hon. Adesoji Afolabi; former House of Representatives member for Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye; the APC Chairman in Idanre Local Government; as well as aides to the governor, party leaders, ward executives, and supporters from across the area.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Engr. Agboola and Akinrinlola said their decision to dump the PDP was borne out of admiration for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s style of leadership and achievements across the state.

“The PDP is no longer a party to identify with. Governor Aiyedatiwa has redefined governance through his strides in infrastructure, human capital development, civil service welfare, and people-oriented policies. We are proud to align with his vision,” they said.

They pledged total loyalty to the governor and promised to mobilize support for his administration and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In their separate remarks, Hon. Adefisoye and Hon. Afolabi commended the new entrants for their courage and confidence in the APC, assuring them of full integration into the party’s structure.

Delivering the governor’s goodwill message, Ojamomi congratulated the defectors for “making the right political choice” and for collapsing the PDP structures in Ofosu, Opa, and adjoining communities into the APC.

“Your decision to join the All Progressives Congress reflects growing confidence in the visionary and inclusive leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Under his watch, Ondo State is witnessing a new wave of development and progress,” he said.

Ojamomi reiterated the governor’s commitment to the development of Idanre and the entire state, adding that the administration will continue to pursue projects and policies aimed at improving the lives of the people.

“Together, we are building a stronger, united, and more prosperous Ondo State under the banner of progress and good governance,” he added.
