A member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing Isuikwuato constituency, Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, has expressed concern over the killing of two persons by gunmen in his constituency.

Johnson raised the issue as a matter of urgent public importance during plenary on the floor of the Assembly, where he lamented the worsening security situation in the area.

He told lawmakers that a 35-year-old resident, Uche Simon, was shot dead by unknown assailants on January 28, 2026, while returning home on his motorcycle, which was later stolen by the attackers.

According to him, another incident occurred the following day, January 29, 2026, when a 19-year-old motor boy identified as Awba Abdulsalam was also killed by gunmen at the Nnunya junction in Isuikwuato.

The lawmaker disclosed that security agencies, including the police and local vigilante groups, had commenced investigations and were working to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.

Johnson called for improved collaboration between security agencies in Abia and neighbouring Imo State, particularly around the Okigwe axis, to curb criminal activities and enhance intelligence sharing.

He also urged the government to dismantle illegal settlements around the Abia State University and Uta Farm, suggesting that measures previously adopted at the Lokpa cattle market could be replicated in the area.

In addition, the lawmaker advocated the installation of solar-powered surveillance cameras across strategic locations in the constituency to boost security.

He assured residents that he remained committed to engaging relevant authorities to restore safety and prevent further attacks in the area.
