The management of Federal University of Technology Akure has confirmed the death of a 100-level student of the institution, Favour Olaniyi, who was found lifeless near his off-campus residence.

The deceased was a student of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the university’s Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Mr Adegbenro Adebanjo, the institution disclosed that the student’s body was discovered on Saturday.

According to the statement, the university’s security unit alerted the police immediately the incident was reported to the management.

Adebanjo explained that police officers were subsequently deployed to the scene, while medical personnel from the university, alongside security operatives, facilitated the evacuation of the body to the morgue.

He added that the family of the deceased had been informed about the unfortunate development.

The university spokesman noted that the police had commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, stressing that the institution was cooperating fully with security agencies handling the case.

He also stated that the university had begun providing counselling support for some students affected by the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents and family members at this very difficult time,” the statement read.

He encouraged students to make use of the counselling and guidance services available within and outside the campus whenever necessary.
