Suspected political thugs reportedly disrupted a mobilisation rally by supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Warri, Delta State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday as supporters of the duo, including members of the Obidient and Kwankwasiya movements, gathered for a march ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Esther Umoh, a photographer associated with Obi, raised the alarm in a post on X, alleging that politically sponsored attackers targeted members of the campaign group.
According to Umoh, the alleged attackers confronted members of the entourage of the NDC governorship candidate in Delta State, Chris Iyovwaye, as well as other Obi and Kwankwaso supporters taking part in the mobilisation.
She further alleged that the attackers opened fire on some members of the group during the campaign activity.
A video circulated alongside the allegation showed a chaotic scene involving supporters and people described as suspected thugs. However, the identities of those involved and the claim that firearms were discharged could not be independently verified from the available footage.
Other reports on the incident said the confrontation occurred around the Osubi Airport area, popularly known as Warri Airport, with videos showing supporters confronting the alleged attackers.
One supporter seen in a video appeared to have sustained an injury and alleged that he was stabbed.
The reported incident comes amid intensified political mobilisation by Obi and Kwankwaso’s supporters across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
The two politicians are being mobilised under the NDC platform, while their wider support base comprises members of the Obidient and Kwankwasiya movements.
There was no immediate detailed statement from the Delta State Police Command confirming the alleged attack, the identities of those involved or the reported use of firearms.
The circumstances surrounding the confrontation therefore remain subject to further investigation and official confirmation.
