Yomi Fabiyi demands probe, autopsy over actress Tope Osoba’s death

Nollywood actor and human rights activist, Yomi Fabiyi, has called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of actress Temitope Osoba.

Fabiyi said his organisation, Break The Silence Foundation, had petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and commenced what he described as a “legitimate probe” into the actress’ death.

The actor, in a statement shared on his Instagram page on Monday, said the investigation was necessary because Osoba had reportedly made a complaint to the police shortly before her death.

According to him, the actress had personally reported the matter and established a possible criminal angle, but died hours later before the alleged complaint could be fully investigated.

Fabiyi also questioned the decision to proceed with Osoba’s burial without an autopsy, urging those concerned to allow the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding her death before her remains are interred.

He said his organisation would continue with its investigation irrespective of whether the burial proceeded as scheduled.

Fabiyi urged members of the public not to allow emotions or sentiments to interfere with investigations into deaths or alleged crimes, stressing that justice required patience and due process.

Osoba’s death was announced by fellow actor, Alesh Sanni, who described her as his “dearest sister” and expressed shock over her passing.

The actress had publicly disclosed her battle with breast cancer about two years ago.

In August 2025, she announced that she had recovered and returned to acting, saying she was rebuilding her life while using her platform to raise awareness about cancer.

Following her death, the Awonuga/Osoba family cautioned against what it described as false, speculative and unauthorised reports about the circumstances surrounding her passing.

The family urged members of the public to rely on information released through authorised family channels.

Osoba is scheduled to be buried on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State. The funeral service is expected to take place at Saint James Anglican Church, Iperu Remo, before her interment at the Iperu Remo Cemetery.

Meanwhile, Osoba’s fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, has made claims about the circumstances surrounding her final moments.

Onadeko alleged that the actress died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos, although he said he was unable to identify the particular station.

He also disputed suggestions that her death was linked to complications from her previous battle with breast cancer, as well as other claims circulating about the circumstances of her passing.

However, a member of Osoba’s family, her maternal aunt, Pejuola Ogunesan, reportedly gave a different account of her final moments.

Ogunesan alleged that the actress had spoken about her impending death and that her condition deteriorated before she was taken to hospital.

The various accounts surrounding Osoba’s final moments have not been independently verified.

Fabiyi’s demand for a formal investigation and autopsy has consequently added to calls for clarity over the circumstances surrounding the actress’ death.
