A mother and her son have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Nomansland, Kano State, over an alleged plot to murder the man’s father.
The defendants, identified as Nura Usman and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, are facing charges bordering on conspiracy and attempted murder.
They were accused of plotting to kill Nura’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono, at Dantsinke Quarters in Kano.
According to the allegations presented before the court, the defendants allegedly hired an assassin and paid him N500,000 to execute the plan.
However, the suspected assassin reportedly informed Shanono about the alleged plot instead of carrying out the assignment.
In an attempt to expose the alleged scheme, Shanono and the would be assassin reportedly devised a plan to make the defendants believe that the killing had been successfully executed.
The alleged assassin was said to have taken Shanono’s wristwatch and other personal belongings and presented them as evidence that he had carried out the assignment.
The defendants subsequently allegedly announced Shanono’s death, leading relatives and sympathisers to gather to mourn him.
The development reportedly took an unexpected turn when Shanono later appeared alongside security operatives, revealing that his purported death had been staged.
The matter is being heard by Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until September 7, 2026, for further hearing.
