Osun Poll: 55-year-old voter stranded as BVAS rejects facial verification

A 55-year-old voter, Sharafa Lasisi, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission to address the failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System to recognise his face, saying the development could prevent him from exercising his franchise.

Lasisi made the appeal on Saturday while attempting to vote at Polling Unit 006, Ward 04, in the Isale/Oke-Afo area of Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State.

According to him, he made several attempts to complete the facial verification process on the BVAS but was unsuccessful.

Lasisi said electoral officials initially attributed the problem to a network failure and advised him to leave and return later.

He said he complied with the instruction and returned to the polling unit, but the facial authentication problem persisted.

He appealed to the electoral authorities to intervene and ensure that he was not disenfranchised.

“My name is Sharafa Lasisi. I am 55 years old. I have been trying to verify my face, but they said the network was preventing the process from going through.

“They asked me to go home and return later. I did that, but when I came back, the verification still failed. I want them to help me so that I can cast my vote,” he said.

The incident occurred amid the ongoing turnout of voters at polling units across Osun State for the governorship election.

Lasisi urged INEC officials to resolve the technical challenge promptly and allow him to participate in the electoral process.
