The family of a Nigerian based in the United Kingdom, Nwachi Nwokorie, has been thrown into mourning following his sudden death, leaving behind his wife, Emmanuella Offor, and their six-month-old child.
Nwokorie reportedly died on August 4, prompting his widow to appeal to friends, relatives and members of the public for financial assistance to repatriate his remains to Nigeria for burial.
Offor made the appeal through a GoFundMe fundraiser, where she described her late husband as a kind and gentle man who was devoted to his family and excited about raising their first child.
She said, “With a very heavy heart, I share that my wonderful husband, Nwachi Nwokorie, passed away suddenly on August 4.”
According to the widow, Nwokorie was deeply attached to their six-month-old child and was looking forward to building a family with her.
She said, “He was a kind, gentle soul, a devoted partner, and so proud to be a father.”
Offor explained that her immediate concern was to return her husband’s remains to Nigeria so that he could be laid to rest among his family and loved ones.
She said the financial burden of transporting the remains and organising funeral and memorial arrangements had become overwhelming, particularly as she also had to care for their infant.
“My greatest wish is to bring him home for his final farewell, so he can rest peacefully among his family and loved ones,” she said.
The widow appealed for donations, saying contributions would assist with the repatriation of the remains, funeral expenses and the welfare of their six-month-old child.
She added that prayers and emotional support would also mean a great deal to her as she navigated the loss of her husband while caring for their young child.
As of Tuesday, the fundraiser had generated £9,656 out of a £16,000 target.
The development comes months after a similar appeal involving the family of Ross Ogbeinde, an international student in the UK, who reportedly collapsed and died on December 29, 2024.
Ogbeinde, a native of Benin City, Edo State, was studying at the University of South Wales before his sudden death.
His grieving family subsequently sought financial assistance to facilitate his burial arrangements.
