Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents have killed eight people, including a police inspector, during an attack on Gaya-Dlang community near Fa’agaya in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The attackers, who reportedly invaded the community on Monday evening, August 17, also abducted four girls, set several houses ablaze and looted food supplies belonging to residents.
Sources said the assailants carried out the attack in the evening, throwing the community into panic as residents fled for safety.
The incident came amid growing concerns over repeated attacks on communities in Hong Local Government Area in recent months.
A similar attack was reportedly carried out last month in Zah community, Yadul District, where a forest guard and three other residents were killed while a woman was abducted.
Confirming the latest incident, the Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Dr Aliyu Yerima Hong, said eight people were killed, including the police officer.
The council chairman added that several other residents sustained injuries during the attack.
He lamented the worsening security situation in the affected communities, noting that many farmers had abandoned their farmlands for fear of being attacked.
“There is serious fear because 80 per cent of our peasant farmers who are farming in that area have abandoned their farms,” Yerima said.
He, however, assured residents that the council would continue to support the military, police, hunters and vigilante groups in their efforts to protect communities across the local government area. Girls in Adamawa
