The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo.

The command also declared a manhunt for Kamula’s alleged accomplice, identified as Boye Balogun, who reportedly fled after the incident.

The incident allegedly occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, after the victim went to collect a key from an acquaintance in the area.

According to the victim, who spoke in a video interview, she was accosted by two men as she was leaving the premises and allegedly dragged into a building where she was sexually assaulted.

She said she recognised one of the suspects as someone she usually greeted but did not know the other man.

The matter was formally reported to the police on Tuesday, September 1, by the victim’s mother, prompting operatives attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division to commence an investigation.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Opeyemi Oluborode, said officers visited the scene and took steps to preserve evidence connected with the alleged offence.

He added that the victim was issued a police medical examination form and taken to the General Hospital for medical assessment and necessary care.

Oluborode said the investigation led to the arrest of Kamula, who is currently being interrogated by the police, while intelligence-driven operations have been intensified to apprehend Balogun.

He stated that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, assured the victim’s family and members of the public that the command would maintain a zero-tolerance stance against sexual and gender-based violence.

Ojajuni further pledged that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and discreetly, stressing that efforts would continue until the fleeing suspect was arrested and made to face the law.

The latest incident comes months after the Bauchi State Police Command arrested a 50-year-old man over the alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl in Bulkachuwa community, Katagum Local Government Area.
