A senior non commissioned officer attached to the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abuja, has died after allegedly shooting at his commanding officer and later sustaining a fatal self inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9:37am on Monday, September 7, while personnel were on duty at the correctional facility.

According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the officer allegedly opened fire on the commander but missed his target after the superior officer reportedly moved out of the line of fire.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

Makama said the officer was subsequently discovered with a gunshot injury believed to have been self inflicted. He reportedly died from the injury.

His remains were later evacuated to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further necessary action.

An investigation has since been launched to determine what triggered the incident and establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
