A man allegedly hacks mother to death with machete man identified as Livingston Nwakanma has been arrested by youths of Osaa Ukwu community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State for allegedly hacking his mother, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma, to death.
Nwakanma was said to have attacked his mother with a machete on Saturday before fleeing from the community.
According to reports, the suspect was later apprehended by youths of the community after he allegedly fled following the incident.
The deceased, popularly known as Daa Nwaigbe, was reportedly a popular trader in the community’s local market.
She was said to have been in her kitchen preparing to make soup when her son allegedly entered the house and attacked her with a machete.
The attack reportedly resulted in her death, throwing the community into mourning and anger.
The deceased’s husband, Dede Nwakanma, confirmed the incident, describing his wife’s death as a devastating loss.
He said Livingston had exhibited signs of mental instability for about four years before the incident.
The suspect was also alleged to be a drug addict and mentally unstable, although the claims have not been independently verified.
As of the time of filing the report, the Abia State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged killing remain unclear, while the arrest of the suspect is expected to assist authorities in investigating the incident.
