Clash of titans in PDP as Wike battles Bauchi governor ahead of party’s NEC meeting

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is headed for a dramatic showdown as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed engage in a bitter battle just ahead of the crucial National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for February 29.

The meeting, which was expected to address internal party disputes, now risks being overshadowed by the escalating conflict between Wike and Mohammed, two heavyweight figures within the party.

Their feud has become increasingly personal and public, with each leader taking shots at the other’s political credentials

The tension reached new heights when Governor Mohammed slammed Wike as a “liability” to the party, accusing him of prioritizing personal ambition over loyalty to the PDP.

In response, Wike fired back, accusing Mohammed of greed and incompetence, claiming that he was clinging to his position as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum out of political ambition, rather than adhering to party conventions.

The clash is one of several issues threatening to tear the party apart as it prepares for the NEC meeting. Internal conflicts, particularly surrounding leadership roles in Rivers State, continue to divide the party.

The situation is complicated further by a court ruling affirming the leadership of a faction loyal to Governor Fubara, which has further deepened the rift between Wike and other party members.

Meanwhile, the party’s National Reconciliation Committee, headed by Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has failed to make significant progress, leaving many to question if the upcoming NEC meeting will be able to deliver any meaningful resolutions.
