A 20-year-old butcher, Adam Musa, has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by a Jos Magistrates’ Court for attacking his sister’s neighbour with a cutlass during a domestic altercation.

Musa was convicted on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault preferred against him.

Magistrate Irene Pati, while delivering judgment, sentenced the convict to two years in prison and imposed an additional ₦100,000 fine.

The court also ordered him to pay ₦100,000 as compensation to the victim.

Prosecutor Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the incident was reported on March 24 at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by the complainant, Abdulmumin Adam.

He said the convict attacked the complainant during a dispute involving his sister, adding that the victim sustained injuries on his arm and leg as a result of the assault.

The court based its ruling on the defendant’s guilty plea and the facts presented by the prosecution.
