The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, John Mahmud, for allegedly assaulting his mother in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of the state.

Mahmud, a resident of Konan Kuka community, was arrested after a complaint was lodged against him over the alleged attack on his biological mother at their residence.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

Nguroje said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had behaved violently towards his mother.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, after which the suspect will be arraigned before a court.

The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling domestic violence and protecting vulnerable members of society, particularly women and the elderly.

He urged residents to promptly report cases of domestic abuse to the nearest police station to enable security personnel to take appropriate action.
