The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Emmanuel Jacob, over the alleged theft of seven solar panels belonging to the Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi.

The command said four of the stolen panels had been recovered from the suspect, while efforts were ongoing to retrieve the remaining three and identify others allegedly involved in the disposal of the items.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to the police, operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Township, Bauchi, took up the case after the alleged theft was reported.

The command said the operation formed part of its efforts under the Safe School Initiative to prevent crimes targeting educational institutions and their facilities.

The statement read, “Accordingly, one Emmanuel Jacob, a 26-year-old male of Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi, was arrested in connection with the theft of seven solar panels belonging to the school.”

The police spokesman said further investigation and follow-up operations led to the recovery of four of the seven panels.

He added that detectives were working to recover the remaining three panels and track down the alleged receivers of the stolen property.

“During investigation and subsequent operations, four out of the seven stolen solar panels were successfully recovered from the suspect,” Habib stated.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, according to the command.

The police said Jacob would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
