The Accord Party in Osun State has denied allegations that its supporters attacked members of the All Progressives Congress following the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The party dismissed the allegation as false, describing it as a deliberate attempt to tarnish its image and mislead the public.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the state chairman of Accord, Pastor Victor Akande, said the party was instead mourning the loss of 20 of its members allegedly killed in the aftermath of the election.
Akande further claimed that 30 other members of the party were receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the post election violence.
The Accord chairman described reports linking the party’s supporters to attacks on APC members as “lies and propaganda”, urging the public to disregard the allegations.
He maintained that the party and its members should not be blamed for acts of violence allegedly committed after the election.
The party called for a proper investigation into the incidents and urged security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the violence rather than relying on unverified allegations.
