Suspected bandits have killed the Village Head of Galla in the Borgu Emirate of Niger State, identified as a brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

The traditional ruler was reportedly attacked and killed at his palace on Monday, August 24, 2026, after allegedly warning suspected bandits against invading his community.

Sources said the warning angered the attackers, who later stormed the monarch’s palace and reportedly killed him.

The incident has heightened tension in the area, with residents expressing renewed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of the Borgu Emirate.

The deceased was said to have been a sibling of Abdullahi, who currently serves as the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security.

The attack comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Niger State, where communities have continued to face threats from suspected bandits and other criminal elements.

When contacted, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, acknowledged the inquiry and said he would provide details of the incident.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the police spokesperson had yet to issue an official statement confirming the killing.

The latest incident has renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect traditional institutions and residents in vulnerable communities across the state.
