The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man in Toro Local Government Area of the state over the alleged sexual abuse of his infant stepdaughter.
The suspect, identified as Balarabe Adamu of Lame community, was arrested following a report received by the police on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
According to the command, the report alleged that the suspect abused his stepdaughter after the child was brought to his residence by his wife.
The police said the child was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical attention following the incident.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu.
Habib said operatives of the Gumau Division responded promptly to the report and apprehended the suspect.
He added that the suspect remained in police custody while investigators worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the alleged abuse and assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
The command said the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law if the investigation establishes a case against him.
The police further reiterated their commitment to combating sexual violence and protecting children from abuse.
The command urged parents, guardians and community members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse or other forms of violence against minors to the appropriate authorities.
Further developments on the case will be communicated by the police, the command said.
