A Kaduna man, Abubakar Lukman, has approached a Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking an order compelling his former fiancée, Fatima Muhammad, to return items presented to her family during their marriage introduction.
Lukman told the court on Tuesday that he decided to discontinue the planned marriage after allegedly discovering certain habits he said he could not accept in a wife.
He explained that both families had been actively involved in preparations for the wedding before he called off the union.
The complainant urged the court to order Muhammad to return several items he claimed were given to her family as part of the marriage preparations.
The items, according to him, included foodstuffs, an electric kettle, a gas cylinder, a floor rug, sweets, buckets and dates.
However, counsel to the defendant, Sani Sanusi, denied the allegation, insisting that the items had already been returned to the complainant.
Following the conflicting claims, the presiding judge, Yakubu Abdullahi, adjourned the case until September 25.
The judge directed Lukman to appear with witnesses or provide evidence to substantiate his claim that the items had not been returned.
