Fasipe assumes ODCCPA leadership, promises fair deal for consumers, businesses

The newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency, Oluyemi Fasipe, has pledged to promote a fair and competitive marketplace that protects consumers while creating room for legitimate businesses to thrive.

Fasipe, popularly known as Yemie Fash, formally acknowledged his appointment by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Saturday, describing the new responsibility as a fresh call to service.

He said the position was not merely about occupying an office, but an opportunity to serve the people and strengthen confidence in the state’s marketplace.

According to him, the agency’s mandate extends beyond regulation, stressing that its responsibility includes protecting consumers from unfair practices while ensuring that businesses operate in a healthy competitive environment.

Fasipe identified fairness, transparency, accountability, professionalism and respect for the rule of law as some of the principles that would guide his administration at the agency.

He said the ODCCPA would focus on tackling unfair business practices, misleading representations and consumer exploitation without imposing regulations that could unnecessarily hinder legitimate enterprises.

“Effective regulation is not about making life difficult for businesses. It is about creating the right balance where businesses can thrive while consumers are treated fairly and protected from practices that undermine their rights and welfare,” he said.

The new chairman said the agency would engage stakeholders across marketplaces, the service sector, small businesses and large enterprises, while also working with consumer groups, professional bodies, security agencies and organised businesses.

Fasipe, who has a background in media, youth development and public engagement, said he would adopt a people-centred approach to the assignment and remain open to dialogue with stakeholders.

“My journey has always been driven by one simple conviction: public service should ultimately be about people. I will approach this assignment with an open mind, a listening ear and a determination to learn, engage and deliver,” he said.

He also pledged to work with Governor Aiyedatiwa, members of the State Executive Council and other relevant institutions to strengthen consumer protection and promote healthy competition across Ondo State.

Fasipe thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him and expressed readiness to begin work on the mandate of the agency.

“To my Principal, my Governor, thank you for the confidence you have placed in me. I assure you of my commitment to the responsibility entrusted to me. There is work to be done, and I am ready to serve,” he said.

The ODCCPA is responsible for protecting consumer rights, curbing anti-competitive practices and ensuring that goods and services available in Ondo State meet acceptable standards of quality and safety.
