The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has terminated the appointment of one of its staff members for allegedly extorting unsuspecting candidates.
The Board disclosed this in its bulletin on Monday, saying the action was part of its renewed efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s admission and examination processes.
JAMB said its drive against fraud was not restricted to individuals operating outside the organisation, stressing that internal misconduct would also attract severe sanctions.
The Board warned its employees against engaging in acts capable of compromising its operations, exploiting candidates or undermining its integrity.
It said, “The Board once again warned all members of staff to desist from all forms of unwholesome conduct, particularly acts capable of undermining the integrity of the Board or exploiting candidates and members of the public, as such actions would attract severe consequences in accordance with established rules.”
JAMB said the same determination it had demonstrated in tackling external fraudsters was being applied to misconduct within the organisation.
According to the Board, the termination of the staff member was a clear indication that its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applied to all employees, irrespective of their status or position.
It added that it would neither shield nor spare staff members who abused their positions or violated the trust placed in them by candidates and members of the public.
The Board further warned that employees found engaging in conduct capable of compromising its operations would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with established rules.
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean, accountable and professional workforce, noting that the fight against fraud and misconduct must begin from within to preserve the integrity of its operations.
