The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a tricycle allegedly snatched from its operator along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway.
The suspects were apprehended on Saturday, October 3, 2026, following intelligence-led operations by police operatives in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the arrests followed sustained efforts to track those behind the robbery.
According to the statement, the victim, Nasiru Ibrahim, reported on September 30 that some individuals hired his tricycle from Hotoro Quarters in Kano to Yar Gaya in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area for an agreed fare of N8,000.
Ibrahim reportedly said that while they were travelling along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, the passengers brought out locally made firearms, threatened him and dispossessed him of the tricycle.
The suspects allegedly dragged the victim into a nearby bush and left him there to prevent him from raising an alarm before escaping with the vehicle.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed operatives of the Filin Hockey Police Division to commence intelligence-led efforts to track down the suspects.
The police said the operatives eventually traced the stolen tricycle to Wudil Local Government Area along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, where it was recovered at about 1:30pm on October 3.
Two suspects, Abubakar Isah, 27, and Shehu Ibrahim, 25, both residents of Zogarawa Village in Dawakin Kudu, were arrested in connection with the incident.
The police said two locally made guns and the stolen tricycle were recovered, adding that the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their professionalism and commitment, while urging residents who may have suffered similar tricycle robberies along the Hotoro-Dawakin Kudu-Wudil axis to report to the Filin Hockey Police Division or contact the investigating officer for identification and further investigation.
