A 55-year-old motorist narrowly escaped injury after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos State, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.

The incident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT. No casualty was recorded in the collision.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed the incident in a statement on Friday, saying its operatives and security personnel responded promptly to rescue the driver and clear the wreckage from the railway track.

The damaged vehicle was subsequently removed, allowing the train to continue its journey towards Agege. However, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis after the incident.

LASTMA said the wrecked car was handed over to security personnel for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the operatives and security personnel for their swift response and cooperation in managing the incident.

He stressed the importance of collaboration among emergency responders and security agencies in reducing the impact of accidents involving trains and nearby road infrastructure.

Bakare-Oki also urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and designated train routes, warning them against attempting to cross the tracks when a train was approaching or already in motion.

He noted that disregarding railway safety regulations could result in devastating consequences, including loss of lives.

LASTMA further appealed to motorists and other road users to remain vigilant and comply with traffic regulations and railway safety instructions to prevent avoidable accidents.

The agency emphasised that protecting human life should remain the priority of every road user, noting that responsible driving and caution around railway crossings were essential to preventing such incidents.
