A councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Rosemary Aduku, has died after reportedly spending several days in captivity.

Her death was announced on Friday by the Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, in a statement issued on behalf of the local government’s executive council.

Aduku, popularly known as Hon. Rosella among her colleagues, was described as a humble, dependable and compassionate leader who was committed to the welfare and happiness of those around her.

Williams expressed grief over her death, describing her as a valued member of the Olamaboro Legislative Council whose contributions and personal qualities would be remembered.

He said, “It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku, the councillor representing the good people of Ogugu Ward III in the eighth Olamaboro Legislative Council.”

The council chairman added that Aduku had endeared herself to colleagues and members of the executive council through her humility and willingness to make others happy.

He said her death was a painful loss but expressed hope that the positive impact she made during her lifetime would remain a source of comfort to those she left behind.

The local government extended its condolences to her family, members of the legislative and executive councils, and residents of Ogugu District.

According to the announcement, Aduku’s burial was scheduled for 1pm on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre.

The statement also invited members of the All Progressives Congress to attend the burial and pay their last respects to the deceased.

However, the statement did not provide details about the circumstances surrounding her reported captivity or the cause of her death.
