The Ondo State Police Command has taken a 27-year-old man, Solomon Onaola, into custody following an allegation of sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old girl in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The matter came to light after the teenager’s guardian raised concerns about her repeated unexplained absences from the residence where she worked as a domestic assistant.
The guardian reportedly approached the Odigbo Divisional Police Station on August 2, 2026, to report the teenager’s movements.
Police authorities said the girl was questioned during the preliminary inquiry and allegedly identified Onaola as the person she visited whenever she left the house.
According to the police, the teenager alleged that the suspect took her to his late mother’s house in Omifon, where she claimed he had sexual intercourse with her.
Following the report, detectives launched an investigation and apprehended Onaola. The case was later handed over to the command’s Gender Based Offences Unit for further investigation.
The police said the teenager had been placed under appropriate care while measures prescribed for handling alleged sexual offences involving minors were being followed.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, ordered the specialised unit handling the case to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and ensure that the investigation was conducted professionally.
Ohagwu reiterated the command’s determination to protect children and other vulnerable persons from abuse, exploitation and violence.
He urged parents and guardians to remain attentive to the welfare and movements of children under their care and report suspected abuse promptly to law enforcement authorities.
The suspect remains in police custody pending the completion of the investigation, after which the police said he would be arraigned if the evidence establishes a case against him.
