A 48-year-old man, Peter Baba Danasin, has been hacked to death by suspected assailants while travelling with his wife through a bush path in the Igbojaye area of Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred around 4pm on Tuesday, happened as the couple travelled from their residence in the Budo Seweje area of the state.

It was learnt that the attackers emerged from the bush and descended on the couple, leaving Danasin with multiple machete wounds.

A counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident in a post on X, said the victim’s wife managed to escape from the attackers.

According to him, Danasin suffered deep cuts on different parts of his body and reportedly died at the scene from the injuries.

Following the attack, a police team deployed to the area recovered the victim’s remains and deposited them at a morgue.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, said the command had commenced an investigation into the killing.

“The story is true, and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects,” Alayande said.

The police spokesman assured that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The latest incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks being recorded in parts of the country, with security agencies under pressure to track down perpetrators and prevent further attacks on travellers and residents.
