The management of Kwara State University, Malete, has confirmed the death of a final-year student, Idris Agboluaje, who was involved in a fatal road accident in Malete on Wednesday.

The university’s Registrar, Dr Kikelomo Sallee, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the 400-level student was on his way to campus to sit for an examination when the crash occurred.

Sallee said the institution was deeply saddened by the loss and extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

“The management, on behalf of the university community, commiserates with the family and loved ones of the student who died in an unfortunate road accident on Wednesday, February 4, in Malete,” the statement read.

She added that the university was pained by the death of what she described as a promising young man, while praying for comfort for his family and the entire university community.

Meanwhile, preliminary reports indicated that Agboluaje, a Business Education student, was earlier denied entry into the examination hall for allegedly failing to present his student identity card.

It was gathered that the student attempted to return to the school gate at high speed in a bid to meet up with the examination, but was subsequently involved in the accident that claimed his life.

Reacting to the incident, the Association of Business Educators of Nigeria, Kwara State University chapter, expressed deep sorrow over the death, describing it as a painful loss to the department.

“Our hearts go out to his parents, family members, friends and classmates at this very difficult time,” the association said in a statement.
