The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew earlier imposed on 10 local government areas following a review of the security situation in the wake of the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, saying residents of the affected councils could now resume their normal activities.

According to him, the decision was reached after assessing the prevailing security situation across the affected areas.

“The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire. Residents can now resume their normal activities,” the statement said.

Oyelade assured residents that the state government would continue to monitor the security situation while collaborating with security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

He added that efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers were still ongoing, alongside measures aimed at preventing a recurrence of such incidents.

The government had on June 24 imposed a 16-hour curfew across the affected local government areas as part of efforts to support security operations after the abduction.

The restriction was later extended by an additional day on Thursday.

Although the government did not disclose further details about the ongoing rescue operation, it urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in maintaining public safety.
