Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a planned attack in Kebbi State after killing two suspected Lakurawa terrorists during a military operation in the Sabarumawa area.
The operation, carried out on Saturday, followed intelligence reports that armed terrorists were preparing to launch an assault on Sabarumawa community.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to him, personnel of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly deployed to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the route believed to be used by the suspected attackers.
Danja said the operation was based on credible intelligence, which enabled the troops to intercept the group before it could execute the planned attack.
He explained that the troops engaged the suspects in a fierce exchange of gunfire as they approached the ambush point, forcing the group into disarray.
The military spokesperson said two of the suspected terrorists were killed during the encounter, while others escaped into the surrounding forest.
He added that troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two loaded magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle from the scene.
Danja reaffirmed the military’s resolve to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements operating across the North-West.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that would aid ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
“The Joint Task Force remains committed to protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens while maintaining pressure on terrorists and other criminal groups across the region,” the statement added.
