The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, has assured students that the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities is receiving the attention of the Ondo State Government and will be resolved soon.
The institution, in a statement signed by its Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Sola Imoru, also urged students to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions, saying efforts were underway to end the industrial action.
The management was reacting to a reported 72-hour ultimatum issued by the Students’ Union to the state government, demanding an immediate resolution of the strike.
According to the statement, the ultimatum was unnecessary because Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is the Visitor to the university, had already approved a special intervention fund to enable the institution to meet its financial obligations.
It added that the intervention and the steps being taken by the government had earlier been communicated to the leadership of the Students’ Union.
The university appealed to students to remain patient while the payment process linked to the intervention fund was being concluded, expressing optimism that normal academic activities would soon resume.
The management also advised the Students’ Union leadership to always seek clarification on issues affecting the institution before making public statements, stressing that regular consultation would help prevent misunderstandings.
It reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, transparency and constructive engagement with all stakeholders, noting that peaceful communication remained the most effective means of resolving issues affecting the university community.
