The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Daniel, over the alleged drugging and sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in the state.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly laced a malt drink given to the teenager, causing her to lose consciousness, before allegedly having sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Following the incident, the victim was taken to the Olukoye Ransome-Kuti Memorial Hospital, Asero, where she underwent medical examination.
The suspect, meanwhile, was arrested and taken into police custody as investigators commenced efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
The statement said, “Police operatives arrested Daniel, 22 years, for allegedly drugging a 15-year-old girl with a malt drink, causing her to lose consciousness, and subsequently having unlawful carnal knowledge of her without consent.”
The police spokesman added that the suspect remained in custody while the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, for further investigation.
The arrest comes about a month after the police in Ogun State apprehended a 50-year-old man, Saliu Akinwande, for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl in the Agbado area of the state.
The earlier victim was also reportedly taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment, while the suspect was transferred to the SCID, Eleweran, for investigation and possible prosecution.
