Intervene in Wike, Uzodinma feud – Sambo tells Tinubu

Arise News Director and Politics Editor, Sumner Sambo, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the growing political disagreement between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma.

Sambo said the dispute appeared to be taking a personal dimension and called on the President to use his political influence to ease the tension between the two camps.

The disagreement escalated after some All Progressives Congress governors, led by Uzodinma, distanced themselves from Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, amid emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to the development, Wike maintained that the Rainbow Coalition had no connection with the APC, arguing that political matters should be handled at the state level.

The former Rivers State governor also said his support for Tinubu’s re-election remained intact, stressing that his disagreement with some APC governors stemmed from alleged attempts to impose candidates on members of his political camp.

Speaking on Arise News on Tuesday, Sambo acknowledged the political pressure Wike was facing but said the President should take steps to prevent the disagreement from worsening.

Sambo said Wike’s political experience and support for Tinubu were factors the President should consider in handling the situation.

He said the dispute was “beginning to look like a personal political fight” between Wike and Uzodinma and argued that the President needed to intervene.

According to him, Uzodinma was also under pressure because of his leadership role among APC governors and his responsibilities within the party’s political structure.

Sambo further questioned whether the recent release of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s list had contributed to the latest confrontation, noting that Wike’s political camp had a significant number of candidates contesting senatorial and House of Representatives seats across several states.

He said the situation required political engagement to reduce tensions, rather than allowing the disagreement between the two camps to deepen ahead of the 2027 elections.
