Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unshaken by the recent coalition of opposition forces rallying under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, Adaramodu dismissed speculations that the APC was in a state of panic following the adoption of the ADC by a group known as the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement.
“There’s no panic. How do you even measure panic mode? That’s pure speculation. Why should we be worried?” he said.
Adaramodu, who chairs the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, argued that the coalition is made up of familiar political figures merely switching platforms.
“It’s the same faces—PDP, Labour, APGA—just coming together under a new name. We know them. We know their strengths and weaknesses,” he noted.
He likened the situation to football players changing teams, stating, “It’s like a player moving from Chelsea to Manchester United—still the same player, still a familiar opponent.”
Challenging the idea that the new coalition presents a formidable threat, the senator asked, “Where is the new political force? Who’s the fresh face from the transfer market that can make the pitch too tough for the APC in 2027?”
He also took a jab at some opposition figures, suggesting their moves were more amusing than serious.
“Some of them have held power for years—eight years as governors, eight years as ministers—and now they say they’re hungry? It’s laughable,” he said. “Politics shouldn’t be all tension.
Every now and then, something comic comes along to make us laugh. It’s good for our health—and democracy.”
On whether he will seek re-election for the Ekiti South Senatorial seat in 2027, Adaramodu said the decision rests with God and his constituents.
“If I’ve performed well, my people will vote for me again. If not, I shouldn’t continue. But ultimately, God decides everything,” he said.
Reflecting on his political journey, he added, “I never imagined I’d become a senator, but here I am. That’s the God factor, and it will guide whatever comes next.”
