Desmond Elliot kneels, begs Gbajabiamila over APC crisis

Lagos State House of Assembly member and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his role in the political crisis that followed the last All Progressives Congress primary election.

Elliot made the apology during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other party leaders, where he reportedly went on his knees and prostrated before the former Speaker of the House of Representatives in a bid to mend their relationship.

A video shared by Lagos Junction on X on Sunday showed the Surulere Constituency I lawmaker expressing regret over his actions and appealing to Gbajabiamila for forgiveness.

Elliot admitted that he might have been misguided during the political process and pledged to renew his loyalty to the leadership of the APC.

He said, “I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry. I’m deeply sorry, sir. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don’t be angry, Daddy.”

Gbajabiamila subsequently asked the lawmaker to get up.

The latest apology came after Elliot had previously apologised to Gbajabiamila during an appearance on TVC’s Your View, where he acknowledged that he might have offended his political mentor through his political activities.

Elliot had explained that any disagreement between them was not deliberate, stressing that he remained committed to the unity of the party and the development of his constituency.

He said, “I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him.”

The lawmaker added, “To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way.”

The development is coming against the backdrop of the political crisis that rocked the Lagos State House of Assembly over its leadership, with Gbajabiamila previously disclosing that he faced difficulties at the Presidency over allegations concerning Elliot’s political activities.

Gbajabiamila had said President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports alleging that Elliot was involved in moves linked to the Assembly speakership tussle. The allegation was denied by the lawmaker at the time.

The leadership crisis, which stemmed from disagreements within the Lagos APC, was eventually resolved following interventions by senior party leaders.
